Saturday 3rd October, and it was time for the band to go on the road again! Off to Belfast to provide an entertainment set at Ballymacarrett Defenders Flute Band contest. Arriving in Belfast i time to see the Melody section, we had a chance to take in the hospitality and atmosphere. Not playing until after 2230 meant that the crowd in the hall were well warmed up when we came on to play.
Our set consisted of the following items, all of which were well received:
1. Trafalgar
2. I Dreamed a Dream (from Les Miserables)
3. Swinging Safari
4. The Jolly Begagar Man, The Drunken Landlady, Hills of Donegal (performed by 4 members of the Band, with tin whistles, guitar, drums and vocals)
5. Morricone's Melody (Gabriel's Oboe)
6. Bohemian Rhapsody
7. The Gael (Last of the Mohicans)
8. Killaloe & Regimental
Of all the tunes played Bohemian Rhapsody went down superbly. It was the first time we had played it in public and still isn't what you might call perfect, but the crowd enjoyed it anyway. Even managed to sing along!!
Clips of the whole set can be found on YouTube - just search for Churchill Flute Band and scroll down the page.
A Huge Thank You to Ballymacarrett for inviting us up to what turned out to be a memorable night.
