This year held on Monday 13th July, due to the 12th falling on a Sunday, The Twelfth turned out to be a good day for the band! With weather that gave us a lovely sunny, dry but possibly slightly too hot day, not to mention brilliant crowds turned out to view the parade, it was difficult to complain.
The Main Parade this year was held in Londonderry itself so was, as such a home parade for us, we had a later start to the morning than usual! The bus for Culmore left the Waterside at 0825 and made its way to the Fountain on the Cityside to pick up the remaining members of the band and Orangemen. Arriving in Culmore a short time later the band were formed up and moved off at approximately 0900. Finishing our annual parade of the Village with Culmore True Blues LOL 1866, we boarded the bus to continue on to John Street in the City.
On arriving in John Street, we met with Pride of the Orange and Blue Auld Boys with their lodge Newbuildings Victoria LOL 1087, and moved off into the Fountain to meet with the other Cityside based Orange District, Number 4. Then Both No.1 and No.4 Districts left led by No. 4 District's Band, William King Memorial Flute Band, up through the City Centre to the Memorial Hall. After a brief pause we moved on to Artillery Street to await the arrival of the main parade!
After watching the Coleraine, Macosquin and Limavady Districts pass, it was our turn to step off on parade. Parading Ferryquay Street, round the Diamond including an 'Eyes Left' at the War Memorial, the parade continued along Bishop Street, London Street and through the Fountain, down Wapping lane and across Craigavon Bridge to the Waterside. Then it was along Spencer Road, Clooney Terrace, Glendermott Road, Bonds Street, May Street and out the Limavady Road to the Demonstration Field at Wilton Park.
Our arrival in the field meant it was time to rest the feet and legs which for some were unusually sore! The heat was also having an affect and it was good to get a sit down, with a cool drink and burger!
1545 came around and it was off we went again, leading the Parade out of the Field. The Return leg of the parade took us as far as May street, before we Halted and broke ranks to see the visiting Brethern on their way home. Finally forming up for the last time to march back to the Memorial Hall in the City Centre.
Passing back through the lively crowds in Bonds Street and back accross Clooney Terrace and Spencer Road to the Bridge, along the way leaving the other three District Lodges within the City on the Waterside. Districts No. 1 and No. 4, ourselves and the other two bands, crossed the Foyle back to the West Bank. Playing our two traditional end of parade tunes, Killaloe and the Regimental, through the City Centre and back to the Mem. Where we ended the Twelfth with the National Anthem, God Save The Queen.
