On Sunday 5th July 2009, the band carried out one of their annual engagements, to lead the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge, Sunday Parade to a Service of Thanksgiving. This year the venue for the Service was the historic St Columb's Cathedral right in the heart of the Walled City.
The Band assembled in Society Street awaiting the arrival of The Waterside Districts accompanied by Killaloo Accordian Band. On arrival at the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall, the parade moved off, now joined by Number 1, 3 and 4 Districts based on the City Side and in East Donegal, led by ourselves. The parade made its way to the Diamond, where a short wreath laying ceremony took place at the City's War Memorial. As in recent years the Band laid a wreath to members and past members who had served their Country and made the Supreme Sacrifice. The parade stood still while a piper played a lament, followed by a two minute silence, enduring torrential rain, thunder and lightning.
Following the ceremony, the parade moved off, parading along Ferryquay Street, Carlisle Road and Hawkin Street before entering London Street and the Cathedral. The Service included the dedication of a new bannerette for the City Grand Lodge.
The return Parade headed through the Fountain, down Wapping Lane and back up Carlisle Road, Ferryquay Street and Bishop Street before finishing at the Memorial Hall where the National Anthem was played.
