The Churchill Flute Band has been a marching band from it's inception in 1835 and despite the increased emphasis on concerts and contests over the years, the parading element of the band is still very important.
The band has had a long relationship with the Apprentice Boys of Derry. We have taken part in parades with both the Browning Parent Club and the General Committee of the Association regularly for over 30 years as well as regularly being engaged by other Clubs within the A.B.O.D. for various other events.
Each year we lead the Browning Parent Club in the Associations two main Celebrations in August and December. We have also had the privilege of leading the General Committee at their Remembrance Service in Belfast in November for the past number of years.
In 2004 and 2006 the band had the honor of leading the Association at the 90th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme in Belgium. We accompanied the party of Apprentice Boys at the service which was held at Menin Gate in Ypres and the main Somme remembrance Service at Thiepval.
The Band is also regularly asked to take part in special events held by the Association. We regularly play at events organized by the Association's Maiden City Festival such as their annual St Patrick's Day celebrations. In April 2007 the Band played at the opening of the Association's new museum and the re-dedication of the "Heroes mound".
The Churchill Flute Band has had a long relationship with the Orange Order in Londonderry, leading various Lodges at both the Battle of the Boyne Celebrations and in various church parades in Londonderry and the surrounding areas. For the past number of years the Band has led the Culmore True Blues and Newbuildings Victoria Lodges at the Twelfth July Celebrations and accompanies these Lodges along with the Womans and Junior Lodges on various church parades.
As with the Orange Order, the Band has had a long connection with the Royal Black Preceptory. Each year the Band is pleased to lead the RBP on their Sunday service and to lead RBP 113 on their main parade on the last Saturday of August.
The Band has had an excellent partnership with the R.N.A. since 2000 since the band led the Association at its first service at Lisahally Harbour. The Band has also taken part in a number of concerts held on behalf of the Association.
The Band has had the pleasure of being asked to take part in the Limerick international bands festival on a number of occasions. This takes place every year on the weekend nearest St Patrick's Day. The band has made many friends and encountered many different cultures and musical styles through this experience.
